Elected Officer nominations are anonymous. You can nominate yourself or someone else. We require that you include your nomination's first and last name and either their email address or phone number so we can contact them to verify their interest in being part of the 2025-2026 Sternberger PTA Board of Directors.
Our Committee Chair positions are filled by volunteers. Below we have outlined each position within the Sternberger PTA that helps make our vision a reality.
Overview
The Sternberger PTA is 100% made up of volunteers. We are governed by a Board of Directors and various committees help us implement and carry out our mission and goals. Below we have outlined each position within the Sternberger PTA that helps make our vision a reality.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors consists of our Elected Officers (President. Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer), a Teacher Representative, up to three At-Large Members, the School Principal (or their representative) and our Standing Committee Chairs.
Elected Officers
Elected Officers are members of the Board of Directors, attend board meetings (four annually), vote and are counted in the quorum for Board of Director meetings. The only positions on the PTA that must be elected are the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Only one person may be elected to serve in any one office; Co-Officers and Assistant Officers are not allowed. No one can serve in more than one elected position. All Elected Officer positions have a term limit of one year. A person may serve two consecutive full terms in the same office but cannot serve more than two consecutive full terms in the same office.
President
The President is the leader and key contact of the Sternberger PTA. The President is one of three authorized check signers and is the required signatory for all contracts that have been approved by the Board. This role serves as the liaison between the PTA and the Sternberger administration and staff and fosters an environment where family engagement is encouraged and respected. The President directly oversees Advocacy, Audit, Communication, Finance, Fundraising, Membership and Programs & Events Committees.
Vice President
The Vice President works with the President to keep our PTA running smoothly. The VP is one of three authorized check signers. The VP is expected to learn the role and responsibilities of the President and performs the duties of the President in their absence or inability to serve. The VP is the Chair of the Nominating Committee and directly oversees our Volunteers, Events, Programs & Enrichment, Appreciation and Nominating Committees. This role has a one-year term limit, with the expectation that this person will take on the role of President during the following school year.
Secretary
The Secretary records the minutes of all general membership and Board of Directors meetings and ensures critical documents related to the Sternberger PTA are maintained (digitally) to compliance as outlined in our bylaws and in other legal guidance. This role sends out meeting reminders and distributes other information related to Board meetings.
Treasurer
The Treasurer collects, deposits and maintains accounts of all funds of this PTA in approved depositories and disburses funds in accordance with the annual budget adopted by the Sternberger PTA, and maintains records identifying the purpose and payee of all disbursements. The Treasurer is one of the three authorized check signers. This role ensures compliance with tax, regulatory, non-profit and insurance laws; maintains a current and accurate record of income, expenditures, assets and liabilities; files all required tax forms and reports in a timely manner; and prepares a year-end financial report.
Standing Committees
Chairs of standing committees are members of the Board of Directors, attend board meetings (four annually), vote and are counted in the quorum for Board of Director meetings. Standing committees carry on the work of the PTA on an ongoing, year-long basis. Each Standing Committee Chair is responsible for overseeing several special committees that fall under their focus.
The decision is intentionally left for individual unit PTAs to decide which committees are standing committees versus special committees to offer PTAs flexibility in determining the best way for it to carry out the PTA mission with the exception of the three required* standing.
