On your mark, get set, join us for the 29th annual National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day
Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day is a great way to help the environment and stay healthy. Plus, it's fun too! Join us and millions of other students, parents, community members, and teachers all over the country and walk or bike to school!
Why Walk, Bike or Roll?
It’s fun! Remember the thrill of riding a bike for the first time or walking or rolling to school on the first day? There’s a feeling of joy and independence—a sense of adventure—that doesn’t fade. Of course, there are many other benefits to walking, biking or rolling to school, too. This event also supports healthier habits, a cleaner environment, promoting safety and community benefits.
If you live close enough to walk, ride, or roll to school from your home, PLEASE DO! We'll have a welcoming committee at the car line to celebrate the day.
If you live a little too far away to walk, ride, or roll from your house, consider the following:
Drive and park near Sternberger and walk, ride, or roll the rest of the way in (many parents and kids do this). Here are a couple good places to park and walk, ride, or roll into school.
The backside of Christ United Methodist is a great place to park and then walk, ride, or roll down Wedgedale to Christ Church road and then up to the school parking lot.
Use the neighborhood in the Holden/Friendly corridor to access the walking/biking path that leads from Hillwood Court all the way to the crosswalk to Sternberger (see image below; red circle is where path starts and green is the path that leads to the crosswalk).
Most importantly for Teachers and Parents: at the very least, use the next week leading up the 9th to discuss traffic safety with your child(ren). Talk to them about crosswalks, street signs, sidewalks, looking for cars, safe riding rules and all the other important information that will keep them safe.
