about
about
HOOT is an initiative created by the Sternberger Specialist Teachers, designed to enhance the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) of our students. HOOT stands for “Helping Ourselves and Others Thrive.”
The mission of this initiative is to provide students with opportunities to cultivate skills and develop strategies to become well-rounded individuals who care for themselves and others. The PTA helps coordinate volunteers and provides for funding for HOOT.
when
There are four HOOT Days throughout the school year. Each year our Specialist Teachers come up with new and engaging activities which take place on designated HOOT Days.
2024-2025
Friday, November 8, 2024 - Celebration of Community Cultures Fair
The Community Cultures Fair will feature culture booths from a variety of countries, and Greek and Native American dancing.
If you are interested in hosting a booth, you can sign up here.
If you are interested in accompanying a student group as they experience the fair, you can sign up here.
Friday, January 24, 2025 - HOOT Day of Service
This HOOT day will focus on helping our planet by participating in a variety of earth-friendly activities. Students will learn a new song, talk about how trees help us and our environment and plant their very own dogwood tree to bring home.
You can volunteer to help out here.
Friday, March 28, 2025 - HOOT Reboot
Sternberger staff will show students how they can reboot and recharge when our "batteries" are getting low by taking time for themselves. Students will participate in fun activities such as the Hoo-Tee Shack (think Caddy Shack), Splatter Paint Station on the patio, and Camp Gratitude.
If you are interested and able, you can sign up to help out at one of the three stations here.
Friday, May 2, 2025 - Field Day
The HOOT theme for this event is teamwork - how World Changers collaborate and work together for group activities. HOOT also promotes the idea that healthy bodies encourage healthy minds.
